It Takes One is a deeper look into one of Stephen Sondheim’s most revered pieces, Into the Woods. This solo piece asks what happens when we step back to realize that we all are each and every character in Into the Woods; from the Narrators opening line, to Cinderella’s final note, the writers of this show managed to created these stock characters that have a thinly veiled layer of complexity as to forewarn us against an array of our own desires. It Takes One dives in between the lines of the show to talk about the greater level of identity politics as presented through the words of Sondheim and Lapine.
